Now sessions and guitar lessons at the Hotel Costa Rica Samara
In our hotel on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, we often organize some cozy and inspirational music sessions. In addition to live music you can also experience art and culture on our hotel veranda.
Musicians such as Odri from nearby Playa Barco Quebrada or Dr. Fredy Soto with his Spanish guitar come to visit us at our sessions. There were about 25 music lovers at our last session. Some of them made music, others just sat around, drank some wine and listened to sound of music.
Several different instruments could be heard that night. For example there were guitars, trumpets, a saxophone or a harmonica. After this harmonious and extremely successful session, we have decided to organize more of that kind in the future. Everyone who is interested in joining our sessions is welcome. If you have not brought your own instrument, feel free to try one of ours.
Professional musician George Weghofer, which is a good friend of us will give you some assistance if you like to. If you're interested in learning how to play the guitar, Hotel Paraiso del Cocodrilo is the right place for you. Together with his famous Mojo Blues Band, George Weghofer toured across America for several years. His experience may enrich your Costa Rica vacation even musically.
Of course we will be glad as well if you just come around to listen and to relax on our hotel veranda. It should be all about fun and the joy of making music!

Weather Forecast and Review for the region of Samara and the beach Buena Vista
So far we had more rain this year than ever before at this time. Especially in June and July there were heavy rains which led to the rise of the water level. Many rivers are still impassable.

Weather forecast for today: On the beach at Buena Vista 28 degrees Celsius are expected today. The sky is partly sunny, partly cloudy. The wind is blowing from the west, reaching 18 km / h.
Sunrise is around 05:32 a.m. Sunset will be at 18:01 p.m.

Weather forecast for this week: Usually, the sun shines every morning on the beach at Buena Vista. In the afternoon and evening, there often are some heavy rain showers and thunderstorms. But these are usually of short duration. The weather here has become unpredictable, as it is the case all over the world. It often rains about three kilometers away, while the area around the hotel remains sunny throughout the day.

From now on our hotel offers you the possibility to improve your Spanish skills during your Costa Rica vacation. The different types of courses are aimed at individuals as well as families with children and are supposed to adress all levels, from beginners to advanced. You may as well choose between single or group lessons. The course times are flexible and can be arranged individually.
For students and small groups there will be special prices. In addition, our local professor Elisabeth Jenkins will give you an introduction in the local nature of the Costa Rican Spanish. News from Buena Vista turtle project
Nearby our hotel, there is Playa Buena Vista, which is famous for its turtle conservation project. It is managed by the ASVO (Asociación de Voluntarios para el Servicio en las Areas Protegidas). We have just visited the volunteers and they told us that there are about 60 clutches at the moment. One clutch contains about 100 eggs. We are looking forward to watch the little babies leaving their homes and crawling into the ocean.

Panamericana now free for traffic again
Miramar, Puntarenas. Since yesterday, the traffic on the roads of Centralamerica went back to normal. After two days of construction works, the Panamericana is now released for traffic.

For at least three days the Pan-American Highway will be closed due to construction works about 20 km north of Puntarenas on the height of the Rio Seco. The detour will lead via San Carlos and Tilaran

Sunshine after heavy rain in Samara Guanacaste Costa Rica
Torrential rains with strong wind, the raging since last Sunday in the provinces of Guanacaste and Puntarenas, and especially roads and bridges damaged. A total of 88 communities are affected. Among others, Nosara, the area along the Rio Seco and Santa Cruz.

South American sea lions and orcas near the bay of Samara
As we reported some fishermen from the Bay of Samara, Costa Rica, South American sea lions and orcas (killer whales have appeared large). Normally, keep the sea lions along the Pacific coast of South America from Peru and Argentina. Orcas in the tropics are rather exceptional phenomena. The ocean currents seem to change.

Free phone calls with Skype
The guests of Hotel Paraiso del Cocodrilo have got the opportunity to make free phone calls all over the world with Skype. Condition is that the called person also owns a Skype account. This can be downloaded in the internet for free. If you make phone calls with Skype worldwide to a normal telephone number you also have to pay just a small fee. Calls from Skype on a cell phone are more expensive but still much cheaper compared to a normal phone call.

The guests of the hotel Paraíso del Cocodrilo can also use the internet service with a quick high-speed-connection.
There is also the possibility for our guests to bring their own notebooks and iPods with them and log in into the Internet immediately, also internet Radio.
This service of the hotel is, of course, free of charge.

Many new baby turtles at Playa Buena Vista
According to information from the volunteers of the turtle camp, we visited today at Playa Buena Vista, Samara, last night more than 60 new turtle babies hatched. Afterwards they were transported from the volunteers into the sea for the first time, where they have to find their way.
Not every night you can watch so many young turtles hatching. It varies from day to day. Currently there are 12 volunteers at the turtle camp at Playa Buena Vista.

Tours of the surrounding area are popular.
The tours, which the Hotel Paraiso del Cocodrilo offers for its guests, are always popular. The hotel is specialized to offer unusual and unknown tours. For example the tours of the last week to the local waterfalls and a jungle tour in the primary forest, to a large waterfall.
There is also a coffee tour, which almost went to 1000 meters, where the local coffee growers told us about their coffee production and some background information. Other popular tours are turtle tour directly here on the beach Playa Buena Vista, Samara, the visitation of the volcano Rincon de la Vieja and the boat trips on the Rio Tempisque. Beach party on the beach at Buena Vista
yesterday was the 2nd Beach party on the beach at Buena Vista on the occasion of the birthday of Nicole, a guest of the Hotel Paraiso del Cocodrilo from Tyrol. In glorious weather was a barbecue on the beach. In addition to steaks and chicken, there was a large salad plate and a garlic-yogurt sauce. Potatoes in aluminum foil were placed on the grill and gave it to cool drinks.
A few days before full moon, we had beautiful weather and a fantastic atmosphere at the beach. When it got dark, there was a campfire. All the people were in good moods and all in all you can talk from a successful beach party.

Humpback whales in the Bay of Buena Vista
After a large pair of Humpback whales feels like home in the vicinity of Osa at a bay and don’t want to leave this, it developed a rear whale tourism there. At the Bay of Buena Vista near Samara, there are also whales since approximately 10 days, which the local fishermen can acknowledge, too.

Britney Spears visit Mel Gibson.

Dangers for tourists
Contrary to a widespread notion it are not the snakes and crocodiles in Costa Rica that are a great danger for tourists, but rather the marine currents. Are the seasides vacationers too careless or wanton in the waves, accidents can easily occur. If however, the swimmer recognizes the currents and takes those into account, a safe swimming pleasure is guaranteed any time.
Even a year ago, the newly introduced tourist police are having an impact. The crimes against tourists in the province of Guanacaste went down by 34% from 2006 to 2007. The troupe will be further growing this year to continue to further reduce thefts. The beach in the Samara region, including Playa Buena Vista and Barrigona is considered safe. Nevertheless, valuables should not be left visible.

Celebrities discover Guanacaste
After Costa Rica belonged to the favorite places of fames like Elisabeth Taylor last century, Mel Gibson, US actor and director, has recently bought a 163 hectares large property in our neighborhood. The purchase price is supposed to be 25.8 million dollars, how the newspapers of 27th May report. He wants to use the property privately and for some of his next movies. He also plans to establish a nature protection zone on the beach Barrigona and on the neighbour beach Buena Vista. Pretty welcome.
Mel Gibson also met Costa Rica’s president Oscar Arias Sanchez on Monday, 9 July to talk about making a donation for the Indians in Costa Rica. He intends to support the countries foremost organizations financially to help the native population of Central America.

According to the German magazine Bunte Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi now want to invest in a 580 millions expensive hotel project that is supervised by the American multimillionaire Steve Case.

The 3-rd meeting for a Refugio in Buena Vista
took place on 10th August in the bar Coyote. Inhabitants of Buena Vista, the environment protection ministry MINAE and the ASVO (Asociación de Voluntarios para el servicio en read areas protegidas) were present. Unfortunately, the representatives of the Municipalidad did not appear again.
